We recently interviewed Moisés Cisneros, Executive Director of the L.A. Latino Chamber of Commerce, to share how entrepreneurs can get the most from their local chamber of commerce. In this video, he highlights the relevance of networking and explains how you can make your small business grow by joining a chamber of commerce. Moisés gained extensive experience in networking and business development as the founder of Ignite Movements, a company dedicated to community outreach and event production.
Most chambers of commerce, like the L.A. Latino Chamber of Commerce, focus on economic development by gathering different resources for training and connecting their members with each other. On the other hand, they also focus on advocacy by making sure business owners are taken into consideration when the public policy makers create a new law.
Being part of a chamber of commerce is more than just having access to tools and knowledge. It’s about being part of a community of small business owners who think like you and go through the same challenges. Moisés encourages you not to go on this journey by yourself, but to connect with other individuals with whom you share a common goal.
He also gives us three valuable tips on how you can make the most out of a chamber of commerce.
- Connect with your purpose. You started this journey for a reason and with a goal, and the passion will drive you throughout the challenges that you’ll face.
- Set a goal for the number of events you’d like to attend per week or per month. If you’re not consistent with your goal, you’ll never reach it.
- Follow-up with the network you create. Build meaningful relationships with the people you meet at the chamber events. Follow-up with them; it’s not enough just to introduce yourself and then never talk again.
