Do you feel like spicing up the Facebook strategy of your small business? You should definitely try Facebook Stories!

With around 300 million daily active users, Facebook Stories are taking over the Snapchat-like way of sharing videos and pictures, so it can be a way to reach more people and present them to your small business.

What are Facebook Stories? 📱

If you are already familiar with Instagram Stories, this won’t be too hard to get.

Facebook stories allow users to post videos and pictures that disappear after 24 hours. You can either upload them from your phone or take a picture.

The Facebook app is full of features that will help you decorate your story with stickers, gifs, geolocation, tag people, and even add a link to your website.

How do Facebook Stories work?

How long do Facebook Stories last? 🙆‍♀️

Each piece of content, either a photo or a video is 20 seconds long.

And, as mentioned before, once you upload a story, it’ll be available for your audience for 24 hours. However, you can still check the insights for another 28 days before it gets deleted.

Who can see Facebook Stories? 🙋‍♂️

The stories will be shown in the newsfeed of everyone who follows you. However, anyone who enters to your Facebook Page will also be able to see it on your business’ profile.

Where do Facebook Stories appear? 💁

Different from a regular Facebook post, the stories are found at the very top of the users’ newsfeed, it’s the first thing they see when they enter Facebook, so they can click and see everything their friends and favorite brands are doing.

What type of content should I post? 🤷‍♂️

Facebook Stories content should be very visual, and with very little text.

You can get creative with what you want your followers to see. You can post images or videos from your camera. Or, if you are more experienced, you can do some editing on the computer and upload something more elaborated.

You can talk about anything in your Facebook stories: your products, discounts, events, a day in the life of your business, anything that you think would be interesting for your audience and is aligned with your brand.

Should I use Facebook Stories for my business?

For sure!  And let us tell you why:

It’s a popular feature with a lot of users  👨‍🦰👩‍🦱👨🏼👱🏿‍♀️

Facebook stories have over 300 million active users every day, and it doesn’t seem that this number will go down any time soon. So it’s very likely that many of your customers are already using this feature and browsing through the stories.

Better organic reach than usual posts 💪🏼

Due to Facebook regulations, organic reach has been going down in the last few years. If you have been using your business Facebook Page for a while, you might have already noticed that fewer people are seeing your posts and interacting with them.

Well, the good thing is that since Facebook Stories still mean a lot of freedom to post, so it’s more likely that you will reach your audience with this tool.

Offer exclusive insights to your customers 😎

Are you having a big Christmas sale? Did you update your menu? Are you opening another location for your business?

Let your customers know through stories!

With Facebook Stories, you can share everything that goes on with your brand almost at the moment it’s happening. You can run games and contests to give your followers discounts and have them buying more things from you. Think of creative ways to engage them.

You can use your Instagram Stories 🤳🏽

Are you already using Instagram Stories?

That’s perfect! You don’t have to do double work and create new stories for Facebook. You can easily share your Instagram Story on Facebook. Keep reading and find out how!

3. Once the content you want to post is already on the screen, you can go ahead to add stickers, or gifs, or location. You can also do polls, ask for ratings and add a link with a button for people to know more about your business. You can also find a series of filters and funny animations.

4. When your story is ready to be posted, click “Next,” and make sure you have the options “News Feed” and “Your Page’s Story” so you can widely share the story with your followers, and then click “Share.”

5. And you are done! Your story will be available for 24 hours. Don’t forget to check your stories’ insights in the Story Analytics section to keep track of how your story performed. You can do this on your phone or your computer.

The insights you will get are:

🤓 Published date

🤓 Status: if it’s still visible to the public (posted less than 24 hours ago)

🤓 Unique story opens: the number of people who opened your story at least once

🤓 Forward taps: the number of times someone taps to see the next part of a story.

🤓 Backward taps: the number of times someone taps to go back to the previous story.

🤓 Forward swipes: the number of times someone swipes to skip to the next user’s story.

🤓 Exits: the number of times someone leaves the story to go back to the newsfeed.

Extra step: What if you’re already using Instagram Stories?

6. You can also share your story directly from your Instagram account if you’re already using this tool.

All you have to do is to go to your Instagram page, open the story you want to share (a story that was posted less than 24 hours ago), and click on the three dots on the lower right side of the screen. Then you should click on “Story Settings” and scroll down until you find the option “Share Your Story To Facebook.”

Once you activate it, from now on, all your Instagram stories will also be posted to Facebook automatically.

3 tips for using Facebook Stories

We want you to have impactful stories to share on Facebook, and that’s why we’re sharing with you three tips you can use for your business’ Facebook Stories:

Get to know your audience

Knowing who you are talking to is key to the success of your Facebook Stories strategy. People won’t react or interact with just anything. You should create stories that are relevant to your audience, and for that, you need to figure out who they are and how what you have to say could be valuable to them.

Be authentic

Show your customers who you are. Consumers like to see real people and real-life events happening; it helps them connect with you. Your stories don’t always have to be fancy animations, it could be just a video or a photo, but it should talk to your audience and say more than just “buy my products.”

Analyze the stats of your stories

Otherwise, you will never know how if your content is working.

If you post without ever looking at the numbers, you might be wasting your time. Analyzing the insights of your stories can help you identify what type of content works best and keep your audience coming back to see you or interact with you.

Facebook stories: success stories

If you’re still not sure how a Facebook Story should look like, we have three examples for you that can give you some inspiration for your business.

Example 1 – The Metropolitan Museum of Art

They use their stories to give information about the free tours they have during the week every Sunday. What a great way to keep their audience updated!

Example 2 – EF Language School

Want to make your audience interact with your story? Ask them something!

In this case, EF used a poll to ask their followers which city they prefer. This is not only good for engagement, but it also lets EF know more about their audience and what kind of destination they would be more interested in.

Example 3 – Crafty

Crafty used a short story to catch the attention of their audience to keep watching a DIY tutorial video. This is an excellent example of how you can use a teaser to make your customers curious and then click on the link attached to your story.
